Sophie Meyer (b. 2002) is a BFA student in her thesis year in the Rhode Island School of Design’s textile program. She began her artistic journey in illustration and storytelling, developing these skills before finding new opportunities in the material language of textiles. After encountering the kinds of hands-on experience with machinery and technology available in her university’s textile program, she began her education with a focus on woven fabrics, and surface design.

She has completed mutiple textile courses with a focus on interior design, including hand weaving, machine knitting, silkscreen, embroidery and jacquard weaving. Narrative structures and film have remained an influence on her textile and surface design process. Her textile work has been shown in RISD community events, and is to be featured in the upcoming RISD exhibition at the Salone del Mobile 2024.
